As part of our wedding planning earlier this year, when Angie and I decided to take a cruise for our honeymoon. The wedding was originally scheduled for Sept 6 (before we changed it to June 30), so our cruise was to be immediately thereafter.
I've taken a number of cruises previous (as part of the Cruise With The Champions that my WCPS colleagues and I did), so I'm not a first-timer. And for each of those, we used a travel agent to handle all of the bookings. All 4 of them were Caribbean cruises; 3 departed from Florida, with the other leaving from Galveston, TX.
Since I'd had such a good expeirence with that travel agent, I decided to use her for booking our honeymoon cruise. That was a smart choice, because when I told her the timeframe, she strongly recommended that we NOT do another Caribbean cruise. The reason? It would be in the heart of hurricane season. Instead, she recommended that we cruise the Mexican Riveria on the west coast.
With Gustav having hit land today, plus a string of other hurricanes following close behind, her advice could not have been more spot-on. If anybody reading this books a cruise in the future, I would highly recommend that you use Cindy Kunkel of Tramex Travel. Aside from the e-mail link on her name, she can be contacted at 512-795-5150.
So...Angie and I are glad that our honeymoon, though delayed, won't be impacted by the hurricanes. Hopefully, the people who are in the areas that will be impacted by them will not suffer great loss.
